November 2020 – Card of the Month

Hello November, what is in store for us this month? We have the USA Presidential Election in the first week along with Bonfire Night in the UK on the 5th, 11th is Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and on the 30th is St Andrew’s Day in Scotland.

Ok, Ok…Bonfire Night quick history lesson. In 1605 a man named Guy Fawkes plotted to blow up the Houses of Parliament in London, the day of the State Opening. The King, other members of the Royal Family, and all Members of Parliament would be attending. Guy Fawkes had brought back 36 barrels of gunpowder from overseas and planted them in the cellar of the House of Lords. The King was the main target, but co-conspirators and allies of Guy Fawkes started to back out concerned about killing innocent people. Word got to the King and early on the morning of the 5th, Guy Fawkes was caught, arrested, and executed for planning to blow up the Houses of Parliament.

On that night bonfires were lit all across London to celebrate the safety of the King. Since then the tradition of creating bonfires topped with an effigy of Guy Fawkes is lit, fireworks light up the night sky commemorating the day when Guy Fawkes failed in his attempt to blow up the monarch and government of England. This leads nicely on to this month’s card, which is the 4 of Wands. This is the card of a celebration following some good news. This could be as small as passing a test or exam or something like selling your house, moving out of home, an engagement, or even a wedding.

As this month of Thanksgiving whereby families and friends get together, I feel we should consciously ‘celebrate’ all the good things in our lives. Being grateful for what we have is more enlightening and powerful than whining about what we don’t. Celebrate being you, and all the wonderful things you bring to this world. Celebrate your pets who give you so much unconditional love and enjoyment. Start seeing things in a positive light rather than a negative one. I know it is hard during this time with the ongoing COVID saga along with personal issues and concerns, but I believe in the power of positivity and how it helps us through even the darkest of days.

I don’t want to dwell on last year, but what was that all about? I don’t believe anyone expected COVID to dominate
